Three Sisters District Advancement Camp

GGirl Guides was the motivator, purpose and reason behind this road trip. In 2007 the BC Girl Guides recurring SOAR (Spirit of Adventure Rendezvous) camp was in need of life guards. My friend Ruth let her daughter know and Breanne came back from Alberta and went to SOAR 2007. She hadn't been involved with Guiding for several years but she had lifeguard experience. When she returned to Alberta after camp she and a friend started a somewhat  unique Sparks Unit...neither of the leaders had children! They have an informal no moms policy and when additional ratio Guiders were needed for this year's district camp Ruth and I were invited.
The camp was held on one of the sites at Camp Jubilee in Cochrane,Alberta. Sparks to Rangers attended and the girls were placed in teams for most of the activities. Sparks and Brownies slept indoors in large rooms with bunkbeds; Guides, Patfinders and the one Ranger slept outside in tents.
Saturday was a round robin of activities and I worked with Erikka at a station called "All about me".
We made lip balm and hand cream using beeswax, olive oil and coconut oil. The lip blm required a small fondue pot for melting and the lotion a campstove. Melting the ingredients for the lotion in a tin can sitting in pots of boiling water over camp stoves were my responsibility. I am pleased to report that the only unexpected occurrence was the softness of my hands after a day of measuring wax and cocunut oil. The final event at camp was the advancement ceremony with lots of girls moving up to the next branch.
